Staying with the older driver isn't an option as we're trying to move away from that driver since it does not support TLS 1.2. Obvious answers are to stay with the "SQL Server" driver and change the column to a non (max) type.

I am only seeing this issue with drivers other than the ancient "SQL Server" driver. If I change the select statement to cast sValue as NVARCHAR(8000) everything works fine. When inside the sName block the field.name and field.value are correct.
